Who is this dog for?

Me, my wife, and our future kids.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
The obvious start is the looks, I find welsh corgi's to be the cutest dog breed. The ears, face, and body structure are all adorable. Some of my family who visit are intimidated by bigger dogs, so a smaller dog would be great. Corgi's also have a reputation of being intelligent and wanting to please their owners, and I think it'd be fun to train one. While I know they are typically energetic, they are not usually aggressive which would be needed for my family. We also have a cat we love, and the size and temperament of a Corgi seems like a good fit for her.

My experience has been limited to friends who own corgis, and they've always been really great to interact with.

I've done some decent research to make sure a corgi would work in my household, but may need to do more as far as general medical problems and such go.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks, dog park if sociable, fetch and play with other toys, obedience training, teach tricks, sleep in bed if they are comfortable with that, cuddle if that counts.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
First, check if I could have done something to prevent it. I.E. not leaving food out for them to grab. If it's a behavior that we've been trying to work on, then use whatever method, like a noise or hand gesture, we've been using to signify a bad behavior. If it's a new mistake, then come up with a plan to train the dog.

Discipline:
Treats , pets, and playtime for positive behavior. For negative, time outs, taking away toys, and not giving attention temporarily. I may give a strong verbal no, but I would never want to shout at or hit the dog.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Most of the time would be in the house. We may have a fully fenced in backyard by the time we adopt, where they could play outside freely. If not, we'd get a long line and supervise while they're outside. But barring that and other outdoor activities, they'd be in the house.

House dog

People at home during the day?
My wife, Sami, has a part time job with flexible hours, but will typically work from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. so the dog would typically be home alone with our cat for that time span. Someone is generally home all other hours.

Where would dog eat?
We have an area for food in our dining room

Where would dog sleep:
Our bed if the dog is okay with that, otherwise a dog bed or crate in our room or the one next to it.

Play & exercise:
Consistent walks, especially since my wife and I love walks. Very willing for playtime, and I'm sure my kids will be as well. I know the recommendation for Corgis is at least an hour of exercise so I'm willing to make sure that happens.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

No, I don’t have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?

Description of yard:

We have a corner house with a front and backyard. The front yard is next to a busy road so we'd only want our dog to be in the backyard. The backyard is half fenced in, and we're looking to fence in the rest soon. There's some grassy areas, a concrete walkway, some medium sized bushes, and a small tree. It's not a massive backyard, but should be a decent size for a smaller dog.

Household members:
{Describe all the people who live in your home, include names, ages and interests. For example, Mary Smith, 29, Enjoys cooking, dog training, gardening and running.:75}

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

{Please list and describe all of the pets that currently live in your home, including the name, type, age, sex and whether it is neutered. For example, Lenny, komodo dragon, 3 years old, not neutered.:80}

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Yes

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?
