It is for our family, but especially the children.

Description of yard:

We live in the suburbs with an open back yard-no fences. Like I mentioned earlier, we will get an electric fence. There is a large Rainbow play structure and a trampoline. Otherwise, there is just a huge amount of open space. Most of the flower beds and trees are next of the house or on the perimeter of the property. I think it would be small dog paradise to tell the truth. The yard is 4/10ths of an acre approximately. The back yard is much bigger than the front yard. It is shaped like a slice of pizza more or less with the tip in front.

Myself and my children.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have interacted with Corgis on a basic level, and I have done research. I am interested in them for several reasons, including the fact that they are an intelligent herding breed, but because of their short legs do not require consistent strenuous exercise. I don't prefer small dogs, but we live in an apartment making a corgi's small stature ideal, without being a true "small dog." I also find them beautiful and as an Anglophile, I appreciate their association with the Royal Family.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
While not a high-activity family, we do walk often. I have a teenager and a ten-year-old, both of whom enjoy walking, as do I. We make frequent trips to parks. We also have a dog park with agility rings in our apartment complex that we would be taking our dog to play with.

Who is this dog for?

This Pembroke is for my boyfriend and I. We both have always wanted to get a corgi, however, we would much rather prefer to rescue/adopt than go to a breeder.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We would like to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi because both of us have always loved the breed. I grew up with a close friend of mine who's family owned corgis my entire childhood. I remember always going over there and enjoying the presence of their dogs. The corgi's were always super friendly and playful, something everyone wants in their dog and made me want to own a corgi when I grew up. Aside from their awesome personality, corgi's seem like dogs that like to be active — meaning always having a buddy to go on a walk with or taking trips to the dog beach.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would take our Pembroke to dog parks, on daily walks and when the weather permitted to the dog beach. We would also play with him everyday when we got home, whether that be inside of our household or outside. We are pretty active people and want to keep an active relationship with our dog as well.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If I caught the dog in the act I would make a loud noise to distract the dog from whatever it was doing. For example, if the dog was chewing on one of our shoes, I would simply yell it's name and say "no", or smacking our hands on the table to get the attention off of the shoe.

Discipline:
Time outs: putting the dog in the crate after doing something it shouldn't.

Temporarily ignore: Dogs are very social animals, so by its owner not giving it attention it will learn to obey what the owner wants.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Weekends and evenings the dog would spend the majority of its time outside or playing inside with the owners. During the days the dog would be able to roam around the household in a cage free environment, while being checked on throughout the day by the owners.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would be sure to remember to reward when they are doing the CORRECT behavior, so they know which action gets them a treat/attention. I would use a consistent sound/work/phrase to let them know their action is not the right one, so they can get the hang of what is acceptable.

Discipline:
I would use positive reinforcement. For example, if they are barking or chewing, I would distract them to play or do another activity, and reward them that way. If they continue to exhibit the undesired behavior, I would tell them "no" and avoid giving he/she attention for a short time to let them know what they did was wrong.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Playing with our other dog in the apartment, evening walks and frequent visits to the dog park (until it's too cold,)

Who is this dog for?

For our family

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have both done research on this breed. We love the size of the dog, which is our main reason for choosing the breed. We do not have experience with corgis but have both done research together and believe this is the right breed of dog for is to adopt:

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We like to take walks and play fetch with our small dog. We would like for her to have a friend to play with as well and this is why we are looking for a dog to adopt.

My son suffers from epilepsy and due to be alone a lot has depression problems. A dog that seems 'in tune' to emotions and needs would be great. This may be a pipe dream option, but I know dogs can be very intuitive. He currently has 2 guinea pigs – which can be moved to our home if the new family member and the piggies don't get along – so that isn't a deal breaker – wanted to let you know in case there is a candidate that likes other animals as friends.

Who is this dog for?

My son, Andy. He has been approved for an emotional support animal by his doctors. He has high functioning autism and epilepsy. He would like the companionship of a dog and has researched and chosen the Corgi as the breed of choice. Because he lives alone he needs an older dog that is already house broken and somewhat trained since we don't have the luxury of training (the owner of his apartment building is worried about damage from a younger dog).

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My son is very fond of foxes – the Corgi looks like one and he is very excited about that. From the ones we met they seem very loveable and friendly. The smaller breed was preferred because of living in an apartment vs a house. He is looking for a friend and companion – the corgi seemed perfect.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
He does have a park across the street from his apartment and is a big walker – so the pooch would have plenty of exercise opportunity. Beyond that – relaxing in the house and just 'hanging out'.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
As a mistake. It would depend on the mistake. A chewed item – a strict 'no' and letting them know I am not happy. 'Going' in the house – back to crate training until the event doesn't re-occur.

Discipline:
Never striking, more or less strict voice and directing to proper (wanted) behavior

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With Andy in the living room or outside for walks. He already has a dog bed and area setup for his new friend. He is hoping for a dog that likes to hang out with him.

Me !

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I've been come interested in the breed over the last year because of how cute their butts look. Over time talking to people and actually meeting some corgis I fell in love with their personality. Corgis are so playful as well as loving dogs. Just recently I've done some research on the breed because I've been trying a good place to adopt from.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would take it on walks, take him to my parents house to interact with their dogs, and to the dog park to connect with other dogs.
